We work collaboratively with each individual in our service in determining the goals which are important to them and the steps needed for achieving these. Our goal is also to listen to our clients and to work alongside them in achieving their goals. We engage with the individual and devise a programme that helps meet their needs, fostering a real sense of achievement. This means that we focus on a much broader curriculum than a traditional educator would, we cover areas such as budgeting, housekeeping, social interactions, professional relationships and accessing further education, employment and benefits. Practical skills such as cooking and cleaning will also form part of our ‘curriculum’.
Throughout the process we are able to carry out reviews and utilise the ‘Spectrum Star’ outcome assessment tool.
From working with people living with autism we understand that the way in which people interact with the world can sometimes be misunderstood by others. We aim to help individuals with autism develop and enhance their interactions with others at a pace that works for them. We are trained in a variety of recognised social interaction and social communication strategies. We also believe that it is important for individual’s to have regular opportunity to practise new skills in a variety of settings and work with our clients to develop a full and varied timetable.
We look at these issues and engineer strategies where confidence in these areas can be built up. This can include supported trips out, creating social Activities include focusing on well being and educating the individual about every day living.
This can include healthcare and diet, promoting independence, accessing the community, understanding sexuality, engaging with professionals, seeking further education and employment opportunities.
We work closely with Peterborough City Council, attending the Education Partnership Team and will strive to support placements in Peterborough City College and other educational opportunities.
Where attending college regularly may not initially be an option, we are an ASDAN accredited provider, meaning that the skills and training completed in house can be backed up with recognised achievable certificated qualifications.
Working with other professionals we will identify and apply the best proven strategies to utilise with individuals with ASC and can tailor sensory activities and bespoke care plans to suit the individual.
By working together we are able to support young people living with autism move forward with their lives to a more independent future. encounters and encouraging the individual to build contacts and use the appropriate social behaviours in the correct circumstances.
